WHAT THEY INGEST IS YOUR BUSINESS

‘Femi Adekunle on Parenting

I once saw the picture of a brand of cookies designed to appeal to children, and, so appealing they were. They were in different shapes and sizes, packaged in small plastic bags, and quite cheap. However, mixed with the assorted designs are images depicting sexuality and sex organs! I have also stumbled on cartoons which encourage sex among children. They’re are all so disgusting.

Many parents spend money to buy or download cartoon materials that are not as innocent as they are portrayed. They’re contents of many children’s programmes on TV are so offensive and repulsive that parents need to be concerned about what they (the children) take in. The internet has become their playground, and while in the comfort of their parents’ living room and under their ‘watchful’ eyes, they could be literally lost. Whether on TV or the internet, parental control is a must if children will have to explore gadgets. Beyond parental control on gadgets however, parents must do more. Take interest in their interests. Filter the information that enters their space without being nosy or becoming a helicopter parent, especially with teenagers.

I once wrote on the topic Continuous Detoxification and Recalibration, a Must. This is why I advocated detoxification and recalibration.

Besides the information that they consume on a daily basis, what they consume as food is equally important. I also wrote on Never Exclude Them from Decision-Making, when I wrote about the story of my family trip to the dietician. It worked wonders. We became able to censor what they eat with a mutual understanding that it is for their good. Don’t forget that when the side effects of indiscriminate feeding manifest, it’s you the parents that will bear the burden, financially and emotionally. Why not save yourself and your children the trouble of the burden of poor health?

It has been discovered that parents who are into the uninvolved and indulgent parenting styles are less likely to be in their children’s lives. This issue a wake-up call for parents to introspect and see if their style offs parenting is harmful. What they ingest is what they digest and its is as much your business as it is theirs.

What they ingest is what they digest and it is as much your business as it is theirs.
