PROFESSOR OKE JAMES AJOGBEJE DELIVERS 11TH INAUGURAL LECTURE

Professor of Tests and Measurement, Professor Oke James Ajogbeje has delivered the 11th inaugural lecture of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology (BOUESTI), Ekiti State.
The epoch-making event was held at the institution’s Pre-Degree Lecture Theatre on Tuesday 22nd September 2026 with the theme; Formative Assessment And Feedback: Looking Backwards To Move Forward.

In his opening remarks, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Andrew Babatunde Omojola eulogized the inaugural lecturer for his diligence, dedication and robust contributions in the education industry and described him as an asset to the University community.
The lecture x-rayed the significance of feedback as a continuous process involving observation, interpretation, reforms, adjustments and re-evaluation.
“Mr Vice Chancellor Sir, permit me to begin this inaugural lecture which is the first in Texts and Measurement, the first in the department of Counseling Psychology, the first in the School of Social Science Education, the sixth in the College of Education, the eleventh in the University and the first to be delivered by a Professor from the Ajogbeje family and the second Professor from my maternal lineage”.
The Scholar noted that assessment is not the end of learning but the beginning of better learning and that effective feedback remains one of the most powerful tools available for transforming educational practice.
“Assessment is the systemic process of collecting, interpreting and using evidence about learners’ knowledge, skills, attitudes and performance for the purpose of making informed educational decisions”. He explained.
“Feedback is one of the foundations of effective learning but not every feedback is equally effective.
With over four decades of experience in education, I can say that the power of feedback lies in how it is communicated, when it is delivered and how the learner decides to use the information, going forward rather than in the sort of assessment that they are given”.
In a chat with our correspondent, the Head of Department, Mass Communication, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Dr Lamidi Kamolideen Ishola, said that Professor Ajogbeje represents academic excellence.
“He is someone who will never compromise academic integrity.
He is very compassionate and ready to help people around him. I admire and cherish him always for what he stands for.
He has contributed immensely to the advancement of the education sector in Nigeria.
He is an astute administrator who has the wherewithal to ensure that things are done as planned.
He is a reference point in the walls of academia. I really thank God for his life”.
“I thank the Vice Chancellor, Professor A.B Omojola, other Management Staff and the University inaugural lecture Committee for giving me the opportunity of presenting this lecture at this time.

I know you are poised to do exploits that will lift the name of BOUESTI to an enviable height and a higher pedestal among her peers”.
He emphasized in his appreciation.
His wife, children, Church members, colleagues and other well-wishers graced the occasion.
