NNS Beecroft Hands Over 45 Bags of Seized Cannabis Sativa to NDLEA

The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Beecroft, on Thursday, 17 July 2025, handed over 45 bags of seized cannabis sativa to officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Marine Command.

The illicit consignment, weighing approximately 1,575 kilograms, was intercepted on 4 July 2025 by the NNS Beecroft Quick Response Team. Acting on credible intelligence, the team discovered two wooden boats suspected to be transporting narcotics around the Takwa Bay and Ilesha axis. The swift response led to the successful seizure of the illegal substances.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, the Commander of NNS Beecroft, Commodore P. P. Nimmyel, who was represented by the Executive Officer, Captain Idongesit Udoessien, stated that the interception is part of the Navy’s ongoing efforts to combat illegal activities within Nigeria’s maritime environment. He noted that the operation reflects the Nigerian Navy’s resolve under the leadership of Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, Admiralty Medal, to curb the trafficking of narcotics and other contraband through the nation’s waterways.

Captain Udoessien emphasized the Navy’s unwavering commitment to collaboration with sister security agencies to enhance maritime safety and protect lives and property. He commended the vigilance and professionalism of the naval personnel involved in the operation and called on the public to support security efforts by providing timely and credible information.

The seized drugs were officially handed over to the Deputy Commander of Narcotics (DCN), Morrison Udo, a representative of the NDLEA, for further investigation and appropriate action.

This latest interception adds to the growing list of successful operations by the Nigerian Navy in its fight against drug trafficking and other maritime crimes, reinforcing its role as a key player in ensuring national security.
