By Chris Mark

The political class and stakeholders of Nembe Local Government Area have described the gathering of APC leaders and candidates ahead of 2027 as a “historic moment” in the political history of Nembe, with former Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State opening proceedings with a call for unity.

The stakeholders’ meeting was hosted by the Nembe LGA Political Class & Stakeholders on Friday, 11th September 2026, to present APC candidates for Bayelsa East Senatorial District, Brass/Nembe Federal Constituency and the 3 Nembe State House of Assembly seats.

The former Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah (Rtd.), in his remarks set the tone by commending stakeholders for coming together and urged all political actors in Nembe to prioritize the collective interest of the people above personal ambitions.

He charged the candidates and leaders to sustain the new atmosphere of peace and oneness, noting that unity remains the only path to delivering development and electoral victory for the area.

In separate remarks after, leaders and stakeholders appreciated Governor Douye Diri for his leadership, peaceful disposition and efforts towards bringing political leaders and stakeholders together.

They noted that never in the political history of Nembe had brothers and political stakeholders from the area come together in such a manner to speak with one voice and pursue a common political direction.

They described the development as historic and said they remained indebted to the Governor for creating an atmosphere that made the unity possible.

The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to supporting APC candidates from “top to bottom”, stressing that the unity witnessed was beyond electoral politics and would remain a significant milestone in Nembe’s history.

The APC senatorial candidate for Bayelsa East, Rt. Hon. Israel Sunny-Goli, described himself as a servant of the people and pledged effective representation if elected.

He also promised to deploy his experience in the House of Representatives to support the party’s candidate for Brass/Nembe Federal Constituency, Hon. Jonathan Robinson Obuebite, Ph.D., in the National Assembly.

Obuebite, in his remarks, described himself as an “applicant seeking to be employed by the people’s company, Brass/Nembe Federal Constituency Nigeria Limited.”
He pledged to unite the constituency, promote development and ensure the people enjoy the dividends of democracy.

The former Commissioner also reaffirmed his loyalty to Governor Diri and expressed appreciation to the Governor and stakeholders for the prevailing atmosphere of peace and unity.

Also speaking, the APC candidates for Nembe State Constituencies Hon. Oteigbanyo George Braah, Hon. Irigha Brigidi and Hon. Alalibo West expressed appreciation to the political class for unity of purpose and pledged to work diligently for their constituents.
