First Class ‘Monarch’, Four others arrested in Ondo

Adekolajo Aladeseyi

The Ondo State Police Command has apprehended a self-acclaimed monarch for allegedly involving in illegal installation process that can lead to breakdown of law and order in his town.

The self-imposed monarch, Adekolajo Aladeseyi who allegedly installed himself as the Olujare of Ijare, a Community in Ifedore government area of Ondo state was arrested on wednesday.

Aladeseyi was arrested alongside four other persons from the community who participated in what was described by the police and the Ondo state government as illegal and fraudulent installation.

The stool of the Olujare, a first class monarch became vacant following the demise of Oba Adebamigbe Oluwagbemigun, Kokotiri II, four years ago.

Confirming the arrest, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Olutokunbo Afolabi, said the ‘monarch’ was nabbed to prevent breakdown of law and order in Ijare as installation did not follow any law or the approval of the local government and the state government.

The Police Commissioner who said Adekolajo Aladeseyi and four other suspects were arrested late on wednesday, confirmed that the State Government ordered their arrest to prevent violence in the area.

He said the suspects would be charged to court in accordance with the law.

Some kingmakers in the town and the Royal family had kicked against the installation of the monarch as they alleged that they were never part of the selection process as required by the laws.
