Director Of Sports, Lambert , Lauds Team Bayelsa’s Qualification For Intermediate Games, NSF.

By Chris Mark

Director of Sports, Bayelsa State Sports Council, Mr. Bibowei Lambert, has applauded Team Bayelsa for its outstanding performance at the just-concluded zonal elimination for the maiden Intermediate Games and the National Sports Festival.

Team Bayelsa produced impressive displays at the elimination held in Calabar, Cross River State, qualifying for several team sports ahead of the two national competitions billed for Lagos and Enugu states respectively.

Lambert, in an interview with journalists on return, hailed the athletes for their dexterity, resilience and doggedness which he said was crucial to their qualification.

While praising the athletes for their dedication and discipline, the Director said the results have shown that Bayelsa has moved beyond mere participation to winning.

“Bayelsa has gone beyond the level of mere participation but winning. I am confident that the athletes will give Bayelsa a good representation in both competitions,” he said.

According to him, the state’s performance at the zonal elimination is a testament to its sustained investment in sports and youth development, which has further upheld Bayelsa’s trajectory as one of Nigeria’s leading sporting states.

Lambert commended Governor Douye Diri and his Deputy, Dr. Peter Akpe, for ensuring funds were released for the team’s trip to Calabar.

“I want to appreciate the governor, His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri and his Deputy, Dr. Peter Akpe for the funds made available for the team to participate in the zonal elimination in Calabar. This has continued to show that the government accords priority to sports development,” Lambert stated.

He equally lauded the Commissioner for Sports Development, Dr. Daniel Igali, for his consistent concern for the team’s welfare.

“The Commissioner was always in touch with the team to see the progress, checking on the welfare of our athletes, coaches and officials. The Commissioner was always in touch and ensured emerging concerns were promptly communicated and addressed. This shows commitment beyond administrative responsibility,” he added.

Lambert also commended the management of the Sports Council, coaches and secretaries of the various associations for their contributions to the successful outing, adding that attention is now focused on adequate preparation for the National Sports Festival in Enugu.
