Rep Kelechi Raises Concerns Over worsening security In Nigeria, Calls for Stronger Actions to address the Situation. By Saheed Badmus

Kelechi Nwogu

Rep. Kelechi Nwogu (PDP-Rivers) has charged the House of Representatives to take stronger action to address worsening security situation in the country.

Nwogu, who represents Etche/Omuma Federal Constituency of Rivers, made the call on Thursday at a special plenary on security in Abuja on Thursday.

The lawmaker said that people die everyday in the country, a situation that could be avoided if security matters received proper attention.

He said that as representatives of the people, the house must rise and speak for victims of insecurity, ensure they get justice and prevent future reoccurrence.

“People are dying everyday in this crazy world like flies, we read about them in the news, we watch them in the television yet we cannot believe it, we only believe it when a man with a long coat comes to our door holding a gun, and then we know we are the next victim.

“Let us not look at it as solider dying or a military man, remove the rank, remove the uniform, that is somebody’s father, that is someone’s husband, that is the bread winner of a home.

“I will plead that this house takes this issue seriously when it comes to security; at the point the general died, somebody has lost a father, a husband; I plead that the issue of security is taken seriously.

“You can imagine what the son or those close to him has passed through watching their father killed in broad daylight just because they are serving this country.

“It is time to speak for them, i know if i say it here, somebody will say, God forbid; but you imagine a son or a wife watching the father or husband being murdered like that.

“It is time to rise, it is time to speak for them and to speak for the people of Nigeria,” he said.
