Kebbi police arrest four suspected transformer vandals

By Jamil Gulma, Birnin Kebbi

Four suspected vandals are cooling their heels in police custody after allegedly breaking into the premises of Government Girls Secondary School along Dakingari Road, Bunza, Kebbi State.

Acting on a tip-off, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Bunza mobilised a combined team of policemen and vigilantes to the scene.

The suspects were reportedly caught using a chainsaw and other mechanical tools to vandalise the school transformer, having already removed its nuts and disconnected the armoured cable wires.

A black Toyota Corolla vehicle with registration number KNT-359-SN, Niger State, was recovered at the scene.

Two of the suspects, identified as Sanusi Muhammad and Ibrahim Lawal, both male and from Sokoto State, were arrested on the spot while others fled.

It was further discovered that before commencing their operation, the suspects had tied up the school watchman, one Muhammad Danda Masa Nasharu from Bunza town.

Following discreet investigations at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Birnin Kebbi, two other fleeing suspects; Tasi’u Abubakar and Tasi’u Abdullahi, both from Zamfara State were also apprehended.

Recovered items included the vandalised armoured cable wires and the tools used to commit the crime.

Police said further investigation is ongoing at the SCID, and the suspects will soon be arraigned in court for diligent prosecution.

Commending the breakthrough, the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello M. Sani, praised the professionalism and swift response of the DPO Bunza and the vigilantes in arresting the suspects.

He stressed the importance of sustained collaboration between the police and the public, noting that crime prevention remains the best strategy for safeguarding lives and property.

Sani further reiterated the command’s commitment to ridding Kebbi State of violent crimes, assuring residents of a safe and secure environment.

He also appealed to citizens to remain vigilant and continue to provide credible information to security agencies for prompt response.
