GOV. AIYEDATIWA APPROVES 240KW SOLAR POWER INSTALLATION AT UNIMEDTH, ONDO

Targets 24 hours Power Supply to Enhance Quality Healthcare Delivery

The Ondo State Government has approved the installation of a 240kW solar power system at the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital (UNIMEDTH), Ondo, as part of the Governor’s commitment to providing reliable and affordable electricity that supports critical public infrastructure.

The Honourable Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Engr. (Dr.) Johnson Alabi, disclosed this while addressing newsmen, stating that His Excellency, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, approved the immediate commencement of the project in response to the rising cost of energy consumption at the teaching hospital.

According to the Commissioner, the intervention aligns with the Aiyedatiwa administration’s vision of ensuring affordable and accessible healthcare for all residents of Ondo State.

“To achieve the goal of affordable and quality healthcare services, Mr. Governor has approved this alternative energy solution to reduce the hospital’s electricity costs. This strategic investment will ease the financial burden of energy expenses while enabling the institution to channel more resources towards improved healthcare delivery,” Engr. Alabi said.

He further explained that the 240kW solar power installation will provide a more reliable electricity supply, supporting 24 hours uninterrupted healthcare services, protecting sensitive medical equipment, enhancing patient care, and improving overall health outcomes.

Engr. Alabi also revealed that following the Governor’s approval, preparations and mobilization to the project site are already underway, with the State Government targeting the commissioning of the project within the first month of the last quarter of the year.

The Commissioner expressed profound appreciation to Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for what he described as another landmark intervention that will strengthen the state’s healthcare system and significantly improve the well-being of the people of Ondo State.
