FUDMA Governing Council appoints Prof. Othman as substantive Vice Chancellor
The Governing Council of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA), Katsina State, has approved the appointment of Prof. Mohammed Khalid Othman as the new substantive Vice Chancellor of the institution.
The announcement was made by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, His Excellency Ali Abubakar Jatau, at the end of the Council’s 36th Special Meeting held at the Grand Amber Hotel and Suites, Dutse, Jigawa State.
According to Jatau, the appointment followed the submission and consideration of the report of the Joint Council/Senate Selection Board on the appointment of a substantive Vice Chancellor.
He explained that Prof. Othman’s emergence came after a rigorous and transparent selection process involving 17 shortlisted candidates out of a total of 28 applicants, with three additional names identified by the Search Team.
“The 17 shortlisted applicants were invited for an interview and subjected to a thorough evaluation, after which the Selection Board submitted the top three performing candidates to the Governing Council, which approved the appointment of Prof. Othman,” Jatau stated.
Born on 22nd July 1962 in Bindawa Local Government Area of Katsina State, Prof. Othman is a renowned Agricultural Engineer and alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, where he obtained his Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral degrees.
He began his academic career as an Assistant Lecturer and rose steadily through the ranks to become a Professor.
Over the years, he has distinguished himself as a teacher, researcher, and administrator.
Prof. Othman once served as Executive Director of the National Agricultural Extension Research and Liaison Services (NAERLS), ABU Zaria, and is currently an internal member of the University’s Governing Council, representing the Senate.
Married with nine children, Prof. Othman brings to the leadership of FUDMA decades of experience, academic excellence, and proven commitment to the advancement of higher education in Nigeria.
The appointment, which was formally conveyed to the public by the Registrar and Secretary to the Council, Dr. Musa Ajiya, was signed by the Director of Information and Protocol, Nasiru M. Abdul.
