Deji of Akure begins annual ‘Ulefunta’ leave Wednesday.

The Deji and Paramount Ruler of Akure Land, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, Odundun II, CFR, will on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, proceed on his annual traditional Ulefunta leave.
The traditional leave, which will last for seven days, will run from Wednesday, September 16, to Tuesday, September 22, 2026.
A statement issued on Tuesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Deji of Akure Land, Adeyeye Michael, said the annual seclusion was part of the traditional practice of the monarch.
According to the statement, the period will be used by the monarch to pray and seek the good and peace of Akure Land, Ondo State and Nigeria at large.
The palace also notified residents and the general public that the beating of drums is prohibited within Akure main town throughout the seven-day period.
It further announced that all roads leading to the Deji’s Palace would be closed to commuters during the Ulefunta period.
The statement advised motorists and other road users who ordinarily use the affected routes to make use of adjoining roads throughout the period.
It also directed that all markets, shops and stalls around the Deji’s Palace remain closed for the duration of the traditional leave.
The palace urged residents to comply with the directives while continuing with their lawful activities without fear during the period of the monarch’s seclusion.
The statement appealed to residents to respect the traditional observances, stressing that the period would be devoted to prayers for the peace, progress and wellbeing of Akure Land, Ondo State and Nigeria.
