Judge investigated over alleged romantic WhatsApp exchange with married Court clerk

A High Court judge in Zimbabwe is facing a formal probe after alleged flirtatious WhatsApp conversations between him and a married court clerk emerged, drawing the attention of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC). Justice Pisirayi Kwenda of the Harare High Court is at the centre of the investigation being handled by the commission chaired by Chief
Justice Luke Malaba.

According to reports, the clerk’s husband reportedly gained access to messages on his wife’s phone and forwarded screenshots of the exchanges to the JSC. The commission is now reviewing the material to determine whether the interaction breaches provisions of the judicial code of conduct. Details of the correspondence circulating in local media suggest the judge allegedly opened the chat with the message, “I miss you,” to which the clerk replied, “Really?”

The conversation was also said to have shifted to official matters. At one point, the judge reportedly referred to a matter in Shona, writing, “Ne case yembudzi iyoyi,” loosely translated as “With this goat case,” in what observers believe may be a reference to a recent high-profile fraud trial involving a government goat tender. The outcome of the commission’s review has yet to be made public
